Update Amplitude users when Drive files are shared

Connect collaboration changes to the people and accounts they affect.

Trigger

File Shared (Permissions Added)

Triggers when new sharing permissions are granted to a file or folder. Uses Drive's `changes.list` endpoint with inline `permissions` in the `fields` mask so each change carries the file's current permission set provider-atomically. We diff that against `seen_permission_keys` to identify newly added grants. Drive page tokens are the primary cursor; if Drive rejects a stored token, the trigger raises `PollingTriggerError` without clearing state rather than silently re-baselining and dropping events. Limitation: truly ephemeral permissions (added and revoked between two polls without any other file modification in between) are not detected. Drive Activity API would catch those but requires an additional OAuth scope and a different payload contract.

Action

Update User Properties in Amplitude

Update user properties using amplitude's identify api. this action allows you to: - set or update the user id for a device id - update user properties without sending an event - perform operations on user properties (set, append, etc.) - update user attributes like device info and location

Why this helps

Sharing activity changes access patterns but user analytics lacks that context.

  • Add collaboration context to users
  • Analyze access changes over time
  • Reduce manual identity updates

Setup

Build it in a few focused steps.

  • 1Connect Google Super and Amplitude once in Notis.
  • 2Create an automation for collaboration context.
  • 3Tell Notis to update the relevant Amplitude user properties when a file is shared.
  • 4Pick the File Shared trigger and choose a report channel.
  • 5Test with one new permission.
